Nevada crypto taxes

What Nevada crypto investors actually owe

CoinLedger serves Nevada entirely remotely, one dedicated crypto tax expert from the first import to filed forms.

We work with crypto investors across Nevada, including Las Vegas, Henderson, Reno, North Las Vegas, Sparks, entirely online, so a crypto tax accountant near you is one form away.

Nevada is one of the best states in the country for crypto. There is no individual income tax, so trading, staking, mining, and selling crypto owe nothing to Carson City. The prohibition is written into the state constitution, Article 10, Section 1, which bars any tax on the personal income of natural persons. That is unusually durable protection compared to states that simply chose not to levy a tax.

The catch is that no state tax does not mean no tax. The IRS still treats crypto as property, and every disposal is a taxable event federally. A Nevada resident who ran DeFi positions across five wallets still needs clean cost basis, correct short versus long term treatment, and accurate Form 8949 entries. That is where a crypto tax accountant earns their fee, even in a zero-tax state.

Residency is the part people get wrong. Nevada only shields gains realized while you are actually a Nevada resident. If you moved from California mid-year, the Franchise Tax Board can still tax gains tied to your California residency period, and it audits departures hard. Documenting the date you established Nevada domicile matters as much here as the trades themselves.

Worth knowing

Nevada-specific considerations

No income tax, by constitution

Nevada's ban on personal income tax is in Article 10, Section 1 of the state constitution, not just statute. Crypto gains, staking, and mining income all escape state tax entirely.

Community property

Nevada is a community-property state. Crypto acquired during marriage generally splits between spouses, which matters for separate returns and for divorces involving digital assets.

Escaping California

Many Nevada crypto residents are recent California transplants. California taxes gains realized while you were a resident and audits departures hard, so a clean, well-dated domicile change is essential.

Don't take our word for it

Investors who thought it was hopeless

These are real people who handed our crypto CPAs a mess and got back a finished return.

Done For You Made My Crypto Taxes Easy.

Starting the process was easy and my assigned representative was highly knowledgeable and completed my case quickly so I was able to get the information to my tax preparer well before the tax filing deadline. Based on new IRS guidance I would never have been able to prepare the crypto portion of my return without the work done by Coinledger. This was a great experience.

CoinLedger Solved My 9 Year Crypto Tax Nightmare

Jamie and the team at CoinLedger were absolute lifesavers. I had nearly nine years of crypto transactions with missing cost basis that surfaced once I started to sell... Jamie guided me on what they needed, reconciled everything quickly, and delivered the IRS forms my CPA required. What felt like an absolute nightmare became completely manageable. I can't recommend them enough!

Highly recommend the Done-For-You program

I was very pleased with the Done For You program offered by CoinLedger. The onboarding process was quick and thorough. My contact person did a great job steering me through how to get the information needed despite my lack of technical knowledge. He was able to collect and reconcile five years of data, including Celsius bankruptcy losses, and give me US-compliant tax forms for multiple accounts.

Impressive follow-through on a genuinely complex case

I hired CoinLedger's Done For You service to reconcile several years of crypto activity across multiple exchanges and wallets, a case complicated by staking income and a high volume of transactions. When the initial report showed higher gains than I expected, they dug back in, found a handful of transactions misclassified by a software bug, corrected it, and my total capital gains came down by roughly a third. Upfront, accurate, and willing to get it right.

Professional and friendly service

Jamie did an excellent job putting my crypto data in order. I had years of disorganized data from exchange closures and transfers across wallets. Jamie was able to find the missing cost basis for my crypto and prepared accurate IRS forms for filing. I would recommend this service to anyone who needs a once-and-for-all clean up of their crypto tax data.

Crypto tax questions in Nevada

Does Nevada tax crypto gains?
No. Nevada has no individual income tax, and the state constitution prohibits taxing personal income. Your crypto gains owe federal tax only. There is no Nevada return to file for them.
Do I still owe federal tax on crypto if I live in Nevada?
Yes. Nevada's zero income tax is a state matter only. The IRS taxes every crypto disposal as a property transaction, so you still need accurate Form 8949 and Schedule D reporting no matter where you live.
I just moved to Nevada from California. Are my crypto gains tax-free now?
Only gains realized after you become a Nevada resident. California can still tax gains tied to your residency there, and its tax agency audits departures aggressively. A crypto tax accountant helps document your domicile change and split the year correctly.
Should I hire a crypto CPA or a crypto tax professional in Nevada?
Either works if they specialize in crypto. In a no-income-tax state your entire exposure is federal, so what matters is accurate reconciliation and correct federal forms, not the title on the door. A dedicated crypto accountant who lives in wallet data every day beats a generalist CPA who dabbles. CoinLedger pairs you with a crypto tax professional who handles DeFi, staking, mining, and cross-exchange cost basis every day.
How much does a crypto CPA cost in Nevada?
A Las Vegas or Reno crypto CPA typically bills by the hour, and complex crypto work runs high. CoinLedger's Done-For-You service is one flat quote from $3,500, whatever your zip code.
Does Nevada being a community property state affect my crypto?
It can. Crypto acquired during marriage is generally community property, split between spouses. That matters for separate filings and for dividing assets in a divorce, so keep records of when and how each position was acquired.
